Gymnastics  Pre-Team Programs

Sanford Academy's Pre-Team Programs are classes designed
to introduce children to competitive gymnastics.  These classes
are great way for your child to experience a team setting, in a
higher motivated atmosphere.   Each December, Sanford
Academy holds an "in house" meet where our "pre-team"
athletes can experience a competition setting.  Once your
athlete has gained the skills and strength necessary to be on
the competitive team, they will then have that option.

Tiger Paws Select:
Tiger Paw select is our "pre-team" for our 4 and 5 year olds.
This class is designed for kids who show an early interest and
ability in the sport of gymnastics.  Classes are on Mondays and
Wednesdays for 4:00PM to 5:30PM and a special leotard is
worn to distinguish our little gymnasts from the recreational
classes.

Hot Shots:
Hot Shots is our "pre-team" for our athletes ages 6 and older.
This class is designed to introduce our older athletes to
competitive gymnastics.  This a great introduction for any child
who has an interest in competitive gymnastics and is ready for
something more challenging than our recreational classes.

Sanford Academy will compete using USAG’s Junior
Olympic Program and NC PREP Optional Program.  We
will Compete J.O. Levels 3-Elite and Rookie, PREP novice
and PREP 1.  Level’s 3, 4, 5 and 6 are Compulsory
levels.  All gymnasts in the country at these levels
compete the same routines.  There are usually 5
compulsory meets in the season ending with a State
Championship.
The NC PREP Optional program is run by the state of NC.
This is an optional program where the gymnast has input
into the composition of the routines and they also get to
select their floor music.  This season starts immediately
after the compulsory season.  Competing in the PREP
Opt. program is optional, but it is a good introduction to
optional gymnastics and the gymnasts usually do well in
this program.  Optional gymnastics begins with level 7.
Once a gymnast reaches level 8 a greater commitment to
the sport is required. At levels 8,9, and 10 the gymnasts
get an opportunity to compete at a regional level (NC is in
region 8 which includes SC, GA, FL, TN, AL, MS, and
LA).  At level 9 and 10 gymnasts can earn a chance to
compete nationally.  Elite- This is the top level of
gymnastics.  Less than 1% of the athletes in USAG will
compete at this level.  Gymnasts compete at Regional,
National, and International competitions.  The USA
National teams, as well as the Olympic team are selected
from this level.
